Hooves pounded around the dirt of the round pen. The cremello gelding’s white hooves thundered with every quick step. Powerful shoulders and hips thrust the gelding’s body forward, almost too fast for the corners of the round pen. Shoulder dropped into the center helping to keep balance on the uneven dirt ground and quick corners. The young man in the center did nothing but stand still. Blue eyes watching, not keeping contact with the Cremello’s blue green eyes. Tack hung on the door easily avoided by the running gelding. His cream coat shone through with huge muscle and gleamed in the sunlight. The boy watched the gelding’s movements; his ears weren’t paying any attention, his head high in ignorance. Shaking his head the black cowboy hat didn’t move. He’d ridden this horse before, and a handful he was. Making a choice he swung the rope in his hands waving his arms, keeping behind the gelding’s shoulder.
”Get up, Come on!” If the horse had shown any wish to slow Tobin was not to allow it yet. Pushing the gelding onward trying to get his attention. Watching as the gelding’s ears pinned, a kick and slight buck up in the boy’s direction as he moved on. The boys steps were slower with his limp. This horse should mean a lot to him. ‘Get a Clu on the Cloud’ just so happened to be a half brother of Tobin’s prize, ‘Get Yourself a Clu’. The same sire and different mare’s proved the two to be completely different geldings. Brothers really meant nothing at this rate. To see both horses together you would never guess, well unless you put their looks to the test. A cremello and a palomino you could tell they were half brothers. Cream stallion both ways, Clu with a Cream mare and of course Getcha with a sorrel mare. Getcha was gelded at the right time for the right reasons. Clu here was supposed to be a breeder. He seemed like such a perfect specimen, great conformation, a good colt. Breaking the colt broke ever law of the colt’s life. Turning the perfect stud, into even a horrible gelding. Never for a second losing his hot head or stud natures. Gelded at the age of five seemed like the best thing to do, but not for this stocky guy.
Pushing him forward seemed so useless until after twenty minutes of constant movement the gelding finally started to pay attention. Ears listening to Tobin finally, lowering his head. Dropping the rope Tobin smiled and back off. ”Whoa there big guy.” Finally a step in the right direction a good sign. Dropping his eyes to the gelding he slowly approached him. Smiling when the sweating gelding met him halfway. Running calloused hands over the sweat covered cream coat of the gelding. The boy was always careful around the horse, he wasn’t just a jerk to other horses, but people were his main target. Maybe a bitter breaking and a hard hand made him this way, or maybe it is just the way it is. No one could tell, no one would ever know. Turning your back to a horse so unpredictable wasn’t the smartest thing you could do with your life. Tobin took a couple steps back, reaching down for his long rope. Smiling as the gelding took one more step closer. Making his own halter with the long cotton rope Tobin held the extra couple feet in his hands. Walking towards the gate and tying the cream gelding to a sturdy pole.
Tobin grabbed a soft brush off the ground near the gate, then turned and brushed the gelding’s damp cream coat. Not going so far as picking his feet but taking care of his chest and body, mostly where his tack would lie. One thing Tobin knew was those special reining shoes could be dangerous on a kicker, though the horse was equipped with just those. The saddle on the fence was no reining saddle, rather a larger heavy roping saddle, equipped with bucking rolls and a strap. Setting the plain saddle pad on the geldings back the young man waited a moment. A moments pass meant he headed for the saddle, pullingit off the fence and slowly onto Clu’s back. Standing back a moment he waited again for a reaction. None, that might not be a good sign. Slowly stepping forward and doing up the front cinch, then the rear, then the breast color. Petting the gelding’s neck slowly he hummed to him. A moment of closeness, something anything even a barking dog could probably ruin.

As Drew exited the barn with Scarlet, she noticed dust flying to the South of the premises. Curious, she attempted to glance over, but Scarlet has other ideas, dragging her to a flake of hay someone had left unattended. She nickered, bored with the scene, and lowered her cranium to the ground to nibble on bits of hay, but Drew didn't mind. She could allow Scarlet to misbehave every once in a while. Drew gently pulled her horse's head up, using the purple lead rope and lovingly gave the chestnut a pat on the neck. Returning to the present, Drew peered at the commotion.
Twirling a rope, a young man was commanding a cremello gelding around a round pen. Drew had never seen anything like it. She could see the whites of the horse's eyes, the pink in his nostrils. It was quite a sight, and she pondered how the horse was moving so fast in such a small pen. Naturally leaning towards the scene, Drew couldn't help being interested in the display. Scarlet had pricked her ears at the sight as well, head held high as she watched the gelding attentively, hay forgotten.
Drew lead her mare towards the clamor, eyes transfixed. She kept her distance, not wanting to disturb the pair, but came close enough to see more closely. Sighing, she recalled the time when she had bought Scarlet at the tender age of 13. Scarlet had been furious about leaving her herd at home, and had been completely disconnected from the teenager. It took nearly two years for her to finally come through, but she was everything Drew had ever wanted. She liked a horse with spirit, as she could be somewhat of a handful herself. Most in her barn were furious she had bought a horse like the mare, and they agreed she was a lost cause after a year of the girl's hard work, but came around when they realized Scarlet wasn't so bad after all. Almost immediately after the end of year two, she dropped the stubborn act, and fell for all the goodies drew tried to feed her. Seeing the gelding was like seeing Scarlet four years ago.
As she watched the gelding slow up, growing tired, her mouth opened involuntary. Sweat had formed all over the horse's body and she almost felt bad for the creature. Although strictly an english rider, she admired the western horsemanship, and was pleased to hear this new barn had a round pen. Perhaps she would give it a try. As the cremello came to a stop, she watched as a moment of connection occured. Not wanting to startle the two, she waited for the right moment when they were about to leave the pen. Tugging on Scarlet's lead rope, she came to about ten feet from them. "That was truly something. Do you go to school here? I just arrived."

Tobin hadn’t seemed to have noticed the female pair watching him, neither did the gelding, that might have ruined their work together. The boy didn’t jerk up when he heard the female talk, trying to keep the gelding calm. Head slowly moved up for his blue eyes to meet hers standing away from the pen quite a bit. A bit of happiness flowed through him as the gelding didn’t react. ”Actually, I’m a Trainer here; teach a lot of the western classes.” A smile was on the boys face, the five o clock shadow looked like he hadn’t shaved in a couple days. Black hat shading his blue eyes from the sun shining down on them. ”I’m Tobin Calloway, this is Clu.” He stepped towards the gate of the round pen, making sure not to turn his back until he was out of reach. Just those extra steps it took to be careful around the gelding. Not sure if she was going to approach or not he warned anyway. ”Just don’t get to close to him, he bites, and kicks, and well lots of other stuff I’m sure.” Tobin chuckled slightly, like these serious problems were such a joke. In his head he still compared the two horses, something he knew better than to do, but sometimes it just happened. Clu was hot headed and could be a bit mean, sometimes a bit to study. Then Raider was a stallion and such a gentlemen. Getcha, he wished he had gotten to know him more. But for half brothers Clu and Getcha were complete and udder opposites. Getcha was easy going and could get a bit frisky, never much of a bucker, but he could take off on you quick.
Clu was such a different story. Biting, kicking, and bucking. Gross horrible habits that one day had to stop. Tobin knew that a horse is only as good as the hand that raises them. Just like most animals, a dog taught to fight is a fighter, a dog taught to be a follower and your pet was just that. Horses needed proper treatment to become the amazing creatures you see in parades, in shows and even under the mounted police. Each needed something a bit different; some horses could be broke with a hard hand and tough cowboy attitude. Clu just wasn’t one of those. Tobin eyed back to the cream gelding, the horse finally looked content, breathing all caught up sweat slowly starting to dry from his neck and shoulders. Even his ears and eyes seemed much more relaxed. Being around people must have that affect, a calm situation to make calm horse. Tobin was very happy with this, he needed a strong connection with this horse to change him back to the horse he should be. That big roping saddle would have to help too, giving tons of help to stay on a bucking horse. Seeing as Tobin couldn’t really afford to get bucked off. A leg with pins and other metal couldn’t afford to get crushed, a shoulder with a plate in it left the same conclusion. Getting thrown off a horse could put him in the hospital. Having to rely solely on the confidence he held for his own riding. Never letting his guard down. Looking at this horse now he could see the good ride ahead of them. They had made a connection, they just needed to make a stronger one, a bond. Like the one he and Raider had.

Drew watched as the man opened the latch on the door of the round pen. She flushed when she heard he was a teacher. Only she would make that mistake. She reached up to twirl a strand of her locks, becoming nervous. She found it easy to talk to classmates, but harder to converse with adults and teachers because she had a history of being judged and punished because of what she said. However, she felt this instructor would be much better than the others. After all, he didn't look that much older than her, four to six years maybe. "Pardon me, but you do seem to be very young. I hope you take that as a compliment. I'm Drew Weld, and this here is my mare Scarlet," she smiled, pointing to her uninterested mare. She was feeling more at ease already.
She admired the brute up close, listening to Tobin's warning. "He really is something. Is he yours?" She patted Scarlet, receiving her attention, and brushed her forelock with her fingers gently. She thought back to the progress they had made, and not just the ribbons they had won, but the progress in their bond. They thought like one, and could see each other on a completely different basis. They had respect for each other, which was something Drew hardly saw anymore, but she could see it with Clu and Tobin. She was glad someone at the academy believed in developing a bond like she and Scarlet had done.

Tobin smiled slightly as the girl blushed up and complemented him. ”If it makes you feel any better I’m one twenty two. Nice to meet you Drew, and of course Scarlet.” Tipping his black hat slightly at the girl. ”I’d shake your have but I don’t need you to get to close to Clu. Not yet at least, when I’m done with him he should be better.” His blue eyes looked back at the cremello gelding a moment smiling at the gelding’s eased body and relaxed state. It was a state the gelding was rarely seen in. Even in his stall the gelding seemed restless as long as there was traffic around him. His smile to the horse was one of confidence, and as he turned to Drew it stayed on his face. ”Yes, he is mine.” He admitted, not seeming to proud of his new purchase. He bought Clu for all the wrong reasons, he really wanted Getcha back, he knew he wouldn’t get the same horse, but never expected the sour attitude. Though the sour and bitter attitude of the horse is what sealed the deal in the end. Dirt cheap and a challenge, a job for him to do besides teach. Teaching students as fulfilling as it was was nothing to working with horses, Clu was special that way, perfect for him in so many ways. An idea came to mind as Tobin glanced from gelding to girl. ”Would you mind maybe helping me a bit? Your mare being here and being around other people would be great for this horse.” He wasn’t sure if she would be up for it. Having Scarlet tied to the side of the ring and the girl in the ring would give Clu such a perspective. Being around people and other horses was a hard thing for Clu, he understood people, though was unsure of the horses. It might be too early for something like that, but it was worth the risk if she was willing. All she would have to do it stand there and maybe he could give her a free lesson or something in return. ”All you would have to do is stand in the center of the ring. Maybe once he’s ready come up to him, I’ll ride him so maybe he’ll ignore you get used to you being there.” It was just an idea he wasn’t sure would work but anything is worth a shot with a horse like this. He wasn’t an expert or anything so everything was trial and error.

Drew felt a little better after she realized his age. Wasn't he a little young then, to be teaching? Oh well. He seemed to be good at what he does, and Drew definitely wants her instructor to not only teach the riding aspect, but the bond necessary to really work the way up the levels of riding. Without that, a riding pair was nothing. She couldn't even imagine how much she and Scarlet would have clashed if they hadn't bonded before she started to ride her. She would probably have had a concussion if she had gotten on Scarlet straight after she bought her.
When she heard he owned Clu, she smiled. "He sure seems like a handful, but they're all worth it in the end. I'm sure he has a good heart." There were hardly rogue horses. Usually the problems horses had were associated with their riders. Drew remembered a horse at her barn who everyone had said was a rogue horse. He had been perfect until one day when he started rearing and bucking. After every jump he would buck until his rider was off, and especially when his rider would ask him for the canter, he would rear. It was really unfortunate, but Drew knew something was up. She applied pressure to his back one day, and as she was moving down his back, she hit a sore spot and the horse tried to kick her. So from then on, along with more incidents, she realized that most problems were associated with the rider.
Listening to his proposition, she nodded, "Sure, I'll do that. Do you want to go to the indoor ring, or what? I can do anything, but I have my first riding lesson in forty five minutes, so I'll need ten minutes to tack up and groom." Tightening her hold on Scarlet's lead rope, she prepared to move. ”Just brought up wrong, he’s smart so it’s not the complete beginning.” A smile at the horse as he turned back tot he gelding and pet his neck slowly. Keeping the horse calm was key. Smiling back at her as she agreed he nodded. ”Perfect I’ll warm him up in here then come down to the indoor ring, meet you there.” His sweet smile still on his face as he turned to the cremello gelding. Blue eyes to blue eyes they almost matched. Grabbing a simple headstall from the gate with only a simple snaffle and nylon reins he turned back to the horse. Untying the rope from the fence and turning the homemade halter back into a rope. Slipping the snaffle into the horse’s pink lips the boy quickly put on the headstall and latched the throat latch. Leaving the rope over the fence the boy walked the gelding into the center of the round pen, well close enough. Nylon reins slipped over the geldings face and neck hooking them over the horn for just a moment while he tightened the cinch up and prepared himself.
Usually it would take Tobin more than a moment to get up on Raider, Clu was a different story, a quick hop and in the saddle reins in hand. The gelding stepped forward half a step before Tobin was on it. Correcting and backing him up a couple steps collecting his stirrups quickly and patting his gelding’s neck. Letting the gelding have an easy rein he nudged the gelding into an easy walk around the ring. Holding the reins in one hand and neck reining even with the simple snaffle bit. Tobin knew the horse knew how to do it and was tempted not even to use a bit, however he didn’t hold that trust for Clu quite yet. Walking around the round pen together the pair moved forward three rounds, then turned around for another easy three rounds. Collecting himself a bit more the young man asked the gelding for an easy jog. Correcting as the gelding gave him a quicker trot right away. A couple easy rounds with the boy constantly reminding the horse to slow down before switching directions and doing the same the other way. A couple good rounds made Tobin smile, letting the horse relax and extend a bit for a couple rounds.
Working with Clu was unfortunately nothing like breaking a horse. The horse knew it all, though he knew it all with spurs and being hit with the end of the reins. No spurs on Tobin’s boots and a set of simple woven nylon reins posed little threat, though the horse was still prepared. Now hopefully as long as so spurs and whips were used the horse would be fine. That was normally when the horse threw his fits as some horses were. Some things he wasn’t sure set the gelding off, but there was a few things Tobin did know. Spurs, whips and other horses and people. He wouldn’t test spurs or whips however people and horses needed to be tested. Moving the gelding around in a trot a bit long he decided he would wait to lope in the arena. Slowing the horse to a walk he slowly dismounted, patted the horse’s neck grabbed his rope and walked out of the round pens. Heading towards the indoor arena where drew had agreed to meet. Opening the gate into the ring his blue eyes glanced around before shutting it behind him.

Drew and Scarlet walked towards the indoor together, Drew barely holding on to the lead rope at all. It was a picture of ease. It was almost as if nothing could disturb them. Drew glanced around her surroundings, taking a deep breath and sighing out her stresses. Almost as quickly as she had relaxed, a broom fell down and hit the concrete with a noisy thud. Scarlet half-reared, and Drew jolted in shock. The mare ripped the lead rope out of her loosened hands, and Drew struggled to find the rope as the mare kept going up. Finally she caught it, and with all of her might attempted to keep Scarlet planted on the ground. It wasn't easy however, and she had to use all of her soothing voices in order to calm the horse down. Eventually the mare did, and Drew pondered as to what the mare's overreaction had been about. Never had the horse been so spooky.
When she reached the vacant indoor ring, she walked her horse around a couple times, trying to ease the horse into the relaxation they had had before the broom had fallen. Stopping, she worked her hands efficiently in tiny circles around her neck, soothing her down. "There there, you're okay now..." she cooed, watching as the horse's ears fell back in contentment. Hopefully the mare would be calm enough for Tobin's gelding, as she didn't want to cause any further damage for the horse's well-being.

Blue eyes glanced at Drew and Scarlet as a smile came to his face. Noticing scarlet was a bit worked up. Hopefully there would be no problems today. Unfortunately for Tobin he couldn’t exactly afford to be bucked off a horse. Landing on his shoulder or leg could put him back in rehab pretty quick. Those fortunately were thoughts that Tobin tried to never think of, being scared of being bucked off usually got you in trouble. Blue eyes glanced back at the half relaxed gelding as his cream head perked up at the sight of another horse and rider. Bright blue green eyes widened as nostrils sniffed in the new scents. Tobin either way was happy another rider was willing to help. He’d never seen Clu go out and attack another horse but he would bite and kick or at least threaten anything that got too close. He hoped Drew was well enough warned. It was always just a hope, surely he could warn her again. He didn’t want her or her horse to get hurt, if Clu caused lots of problems in the stables Tobin would surely have to sell him. Being a horse responsible in hurting a student would be grounds for the school to look into said horse and rider. Tobin was for sure clean, he would never try to get any student hurt. Though Clu he was never too sure of the reaction. Even better he had no idea what the girl or other horse’s reaction would be.
Tobin took the reins back other the gelding’s neck and took no time getting on. Holding back on the reins as gelding stepped forward only to stop and back up a couple steps. Collecting himself quickly the boy tried to keep the gelding standing. Patience was something this horse had none of as it seemed, every step forward equalled at least two back on correction. ”You can just pretend we’re not here, just don’t get to close.” Tobin’s voice finally spoke, more like a teacher now than anything. He tried on the other hand not to get too demanding, she was trying to help and he wasn’t here to teach her. She had her own teacher and as far as Tobin knew she was not one of them. Blue eyes glanced down at the horse’s ears, watching them still locked on the girl and horse. The horse would have to learn to pay attention to Tobin, not his surroundings. Finally it seemed like forever of standing still before he asked the horse to walk on. The pair slowly moved around the arena, gelding’s nostrils still flared taking in all the scents of the arena and of course, the other pair.

Walking Scarlet around to attempt to relax her, Drew waited for Mr. Calloway to come in with his gelding. When he did, she smiled and waved as he mounted and started walking around. She slipped her mare a treat, as a bribe to have the mare stay calm. Scarlet was looking fine now, so there shouldn't be any problems.
She watched as Clu seemed to be nervous with Scarlet and her in the ring, but eventually he calmed down slightly. Listening to mr. Calloway's warning, she called, "Will do!" quietly, but loud enough for him to hear. She rested her shoulder on Scarlet's neck, sighing as she checked her watch. She would have to leave in twenty minutes, but for now, she was okay.

It didn’t look like an easy couple rounds of walking and avoiding the girl and mare in the center of the ring. The gelding’s stallion instincts were still his entire world as it seemed. A walk was difficult for the man in the saddle to hold, keeping the prancing gelding away from the girl and mare, ears still locked on the pair in question. It looked like a constant struggle to keep the gelding from the mare and girl along with keeping a walk. A couple more minutes as the pair moved around still trying to circle the outside of the ring. A keen watcher could easily see the gelding leaning into the center of the ring not listening to the boy. Reins were rather tight still as the pair moved around a couple uneasy rounds the gelding may have gotten a little too close, hell ten feet or maybe more was still too close. Ears locked on the mare one more moment before pinning back, mouth opening and a quick lunging step towards the girl. Cranking on the away rein he called his warning, ”Look out!” His voice yelled as just as quickly he got the gelding to turn around. Pulling hard the gelding was forced into small quick turns. The cremello’s huge feet kicked out from underneath him as the turns finally slowed to a stop.
It was just as quick as she could look Tobin was on the ground on his feet holding the reins in his hands pulling the gelding around him in tight circles around his body. Blood flowed from his free hand as he held his ground, the gelding had clearly bitten him. The only thoughts going through the young man’s head was he was going to lose this horse. The stable would never put up with the fact he just about attacked another horse and rider. Good thing they didn’t get quite close enough to hurt the girl and horse, though it might have stressed the horse quite a bit. Thoughts flowed through the man’s mind as he grabbed both reins in one hand, shoved his elbow into the gelding’s neck and started walking the gelding forward. Pushing through the gelding as they walked making the horse do what he was told. Tobin most of the time was laid back and easy to deal with, being so harsh with a horse was not something he did often. It came to the point sometimes where this was just the way it had to be, but know he knew this horse wasn’t staying here. He tried to walk the gelding out to calm him down, realizing now his hat had flown off his head. Limping steps were one after another, quicker than normal as a bit of anger filled up the young man’s face. Embarrassment, anger it was all there. Having to sell this horse broke his heart but at the same time he knew it had to be done. If Drew told anyone this horse would be banned from the property in no time.

Noting the gelding was becoming more agitated, she almost squealed when the horse lunged at her, but kept her mouth shut, knowing it would not be a good idea for this already riled up horse. She stepped back and pulled the mare's lead rope quickly. The mare leapt back just in time, and before she had time to recover, Mr. Calloway was already off his horse and circling the horse in tight circles like any good rider would do.
Her mouth open, Drew was still in shock at what had just happened. Now Scarlet was snorting unhappily again, after all she had done to quiet the mare. However, she also felt bad for Mr. Calloway. He had done all he could to keep her safe, and she admitted he had done all he could to control the situation. "Mr. Calloway, are you okay?!" she called over, not daring to move closer to the stressed gelding and his owner. As she waited for the poor man to respond, she circled her fingers into Scarlet's neck to give her a massage, hoping it would help cool her down.

Tobin’s stepped finally slowed as he started to tire before the gelding. The horse surely had tons of energy still dancing around prancing sideways as the boy had his head held around and kept walking forward. Gelding’s ears flickered around mouth wide open as they moved. Tobin didn’t look over as Drew spoke, ‘Mr. Calloway,’ wow he felt old. ”Yes Miss Weld, he just bit me.” Keeping his pace he slowly walked the gelding to the farthest corner away from her, loosening his hold for a quick moment long enough to strip the old roping saddle from the horse’s back, letting it fall to the ground. He knew the gelding had no interest in calming down now. Once his mind was set it took a long time to get it away. They didn’t spend much time standing still before the pair was off walking again. Tobin knew he needed the gelding to do one thing he wanted him too before he could go away. In his mind it didn’t matter, the horse would have to be sold.
It was all something Tobin knew the first day he say him. The horse was too dangerous to be at a school. He knew it, he wished he had more time to work with the gelding. Teaching and working didn’t leave him tons of time to work with Clu. A mistake the boy never should have made, but a risk he just had too. His mind was so far set on Getcha he couldn’t believe he had gotten so low. He felt horrible now, he knew better than to bring an dangerous horse here. ”I’m Sorry I should have never asked you to help.” His blue eyes looked up at her with a bit of pain hard to see from the longer distance. Horrible wasn’t quite the words for it, shit, lower than shit, it was horrible, horrific, something he never should have done to the school itself. His eyes focused on the girl again. ”I’m going to put him away and come back for his tack in a moment.” He warned the girl, taking the horse out of the arena and into the main barn. It didn’t take him long to lock the gelding in his stall and get bitten once more. Shaking his head in disbelief the young man walked back tossed the headstall on the ground near the tack room, heading back towards the arena his mind filled with the horrific day’s events.
Heading back to the arena he headed straight for his black hat, picking it up with the bit of disappointment that the gelding had trampled it. Shaking his head his blond curls bounced around as he tried to mould the hat back to its shape and brush it off. His eyes looked back at Drew once again taking a couple more steps towards her. ”Are you and Scarlet alright?” He asked as sincere as could be. A man bleeding from two spots on his right arm seemed undisturbed or worried about his own aliments the student and her horse were much more important.

Drew's mouth opened slightly even more when she heard the man was hurt. In concern, she was about to ask him if he needed help when he told her he was going to put the gelding away. Still in disbelief, she continued to rub Scarlet's neck. The mare was calming down now, and so she started to walk her around the ring again. She waited patiently for him to come back and then lead Scarlet over to him.
"I'm fine, really. Clu didn't manage to reach either Scarlet nor I. But the real question is, how are you? How deep is the wound?" the girl asked, her brow furrowing with concern. She appreciated that the instructor wanted to know how she and her horse were, but she could see a s light trace of pain in his eyes. She really hoped the would wasn't that deep, and it could be properly healed with the right first aid.
She thought about Clu, pondering what Mr. Calloway would do with him. He seemed like a horse that would need extra training, and she didn't think the facilities at Kent supported Clu. She hoped Mr. Calloway wouldn't sell him, but instead board him somewhere else for the time being, like the farm down the street. Clu seemed to have a good head on his shoulders, from the looks of his and Tobin's join up. Drew really believed there was hope for him yet.

After fixing the hat twice on his head his blue eyes looked at the student. Shrugging at her question he looked down at his left arm, rolling up his sleeve to his shoulder. He couldn’t see the top bite that was just below his shoulder back a bit but it wasn’t bleeding that bad so assumed it was okay. Looking down at his forearm where the bite had clearly been the worse he let out a bit of a sigh. ”I’m ok, the one might need stitches but I’ll just wash them off really good.” He stepped a couple steps towards the girl now. ”That’s good you are ok.” His mind focused on the girl a bit longer, trying not the think of the cremello gelding. It wouldn’t be the first time he had bitten anyone, including Tobin.
Tobin knew Drew knew what was going to happen with the bitter gelding. He couldn’t keep the poor gelding away from every horse and riding around here. He could ride later when everyone was gone but he liked spending his days getting to know the western lesson horses and teach the few lessons he did give. He couldn’t absorb himself with just Clu and he knew it, with his slowly growing student list he needed the extra time. Two students wasn’t a lot until one signed up for all of his classes. His thoughts blanked for an easy moment as he looked back at the girl and horse. “I’m still very sorry.” His voice so genuine as he spoke knowing he should have never put her in that position. He should have looked into her horse first, if she was the least bit unstable this could have been a disaster. Thank the lord the horse seemed fine, the girl holding very strong about quite a dramatic event. The young man felt guilty, and very responsible for the event, he should have gotten to know the horse better before exposing him to people and horses. Rushing things was a horrible mistake some people made with their horses, though Tobin’s confidence in the horse was shattered by the day’s events. They had started rough together, gotten better, a connection he thought, then ended horribly. It was good he knew someone to take the horse, a distant cousin was only a thousand miles away, shipping Clu there would be easy, after the horse was obviously tranquilized for the trip. Tobin would make the arrangements tomorrow the horse would be at his cousin’s by the end of the week.
